While many of the Western nations are adopting a more restrictive immigration policy, the one thing that’s setting Canada apart on a global stage is its new immigration – friendly stance.Canada’s goal includes admitting over a million new permanent residents by the end of 2021 and the CNN, BBC and The New York Times have highlighted this three year target as a positive step towards increasing immigration and improving the economic health.
“Growing immigration levels, particularly in the Economic Class, will help us sustain our Canada Immigration Services In Ahmedabad labor force, support economic growth and spur innovation.” said the minister of immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Ahmed Hussen, in his annual report to the parliament last fall.
The total immigration is expected to reach about 350000 new permanent residents because of this three year immigration plan. This amounts to nearly 1% of Canada’s population. The conference board of Canada expects this level to be reached by 2030 in order to achieve modest population and economic growth.
Canada has slated four different immigration programs that include the three Federal High Skilled programs managed by Canada’s Express Entry system and the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) via which 60% of the new permanent residents are expected to arrive. Canada’s Express Entry System, which was introduced in 2015, favors immigration candidates who are young, highly educated and skilled work experience. The list of professionals invited to apply for the Canadian permanent residence through Express Entry in 2018 are software engineers and designers, information systems analysts and consultants and interactive media developers. The PNP program also showed impressive growth and has evolved from 233 new permanent resident admissions in 1996 to 55000 in 2018.
Here’s how Canada’s PNP nomination allocation for 2018 was distributed across participating provinces and territories:
One of the positive points of permanent residency in Canada is the ability to sponsor additional family members. Family reunifications are the central pillar of Canada’s immigration program that contributed to the economic, social and cultural prosperity of all Canadians. The family sponsorship programs for spouses/common law partners and children and grandparents have a target of 88500 in 2019 and 91000 in both 2020 and 2021. The influx of asylum seekers has increased over the last two years and Canada maintains it’s commitment to refugees and vulnerable persons who are looking to start afresh. The admissions targets for refugees and other protected persons for 2019 is 46450 and for 2021 is 51700.
With these policy changes and goals, Canada definitely seems like a great destination for those hoping to make it their home for the future!
